The Journey
So Far:
-
i.) Agro-Allied
Services:
We are aware of the
position of Government in the development of the Agricultural
Sector, and hence we are committed to contribute our quota towards
the realization of the mandate of Federal Government towards food
security. The Institute is presently doing a lot of work by
mobilizing people particularly from the rural areas to put forces
together in pursuing this laudable dream. Presently, there are
about 31 Agro-Allied co-operative groups who are subsidiary groups
of the organisation. These co-operative groups are on course in
the vanguard of boosting food production, giving employment to
Nigerian people and positively affecting the per-capital income of
citizens.
-
ii.) Sewing: The sewing training arm of the centre is manned by
highly experienced hands who have gathered adequate experience and
exposure in the Fashion Technology. Annually, over 50 people
graduate from this arm of training. D-Pat don’t just send them
away aimless and armless, but they are empowered in line with
their area of training, so that they can go out to the market
fulfilled. It is also interesting to note that this scheme has
literally transformed the lives of the women, youth, and elderly
by making life more meaningful to them.
-
iii.) Catering:
As an extension of the mandate of D-Pat, training
in the aspect of catering and catering services have been a
consistent feature of the centre. Here, students are taught how to
make meat pies, cakes, fry doughnut, chicken, egg-roll and fish
role. More importantly, both English and African dishes are also
taught.
-
iv.) Hair Dressing: In this section, students are taught how to wash,
set and style their hairs. Of-course over 20 varieties of hair
styles abound and students are painstakingly put through the
several dimensions of the technology that exist. Fixing, plaiting
and styling are all part of the existing area of this
department.
-
v.) Basic Literacy
Programme: D-Pat knows that where
education is missing, people are powerless. The Institute is
therefore also committed to the mental development of a woman,
women, elderly, youth. The Literary section of the Institute is
handling this aspect. The Institute has vowed to produce at least,
one literate person in every home of four in FCT. People are
taught how to read and write, beginning from the most elementary
stage of education. Needless to say that this programme is manned
by highly experienced hands that are capable of giving the
institute a good result for her time and investment. Dozens of
people have been mentally empowered through this scheme since
inception.
-
vi.) Health
Education:
Health is wealth, and as
such, it is our responsibility to educate our students on basic
knowledge of health education. we are committed to build into them
the philosophy that wealth cannot exist without health. We teach
them physical education, to keep them away from hard drugs, to
avoid fake drugs and how to preserve our food without infection,
creating awareness of HIV/Aids stigma.
-
vii.) Home
Management:
This aspect of our programme is designed to teach people how to manage their home. It
is the responsibility of a girl child to keep the rudimentary
aspect of keeping the home. Many girl child youths who were
labeled irresponsible have been hitherto reformed through the
training and now have become the pride of their parents and in the
society at large.

What
The Future Holds For DPAT:
In view of the aforementioned programme areas the
center has cast her net on, we want to say that we are however not
resting on our oars as regards the mandate we have for the
Girl-child/Women. It is true that we have touched some lives, but we
want to do more as our own irrevocable contribution to putting smile
on the faces of people. We are no longer merely interested in the
Girl child, but the response we have received in that direction has
motivated us to extend this programme to the Youths since it is in
their hands that the future of this Global world and Nigeria
lies.

Prospectus:
D-Pat is taking steps towards compiling a Register
of the unskilled and the unemployed in FCT with a view to
systematically selecting the beneficiary on a batch basis, in which
case if you are not part of the first batch, there will still be
opportunity for you in the upcoming batch. This programme will be
executed through the National Directorate of Employment (NDE). It is
our most passionate desire to relieve not just the Girl child here
but youths, from the concomitant anathema of unemployment and
economic malaise.
Presently we are trying to consolidate our grounds
and establish a lasting impact in FCT. Our next phase of work is to
reach out to other states of the Federation and introduce our
programmes there. That of the Agro-allied Services have taken off in
about 27 states of the Federation but that of the micro credit
facilities have taken off since on 18th Jan 2007 and about 200
groups of 10 members each have benefited in our rural areas of the
FCT in the 6 area councils of Abuja. It may interest you to know
that 5 million was released from the FCT Government through Social
Development Secretariat to the DPAT Foundation. The beneficiaries
